US 1944 M2A1 105mm Howitzer

The US M2 and M2A1 Howitzers were the workhorse field artillery for the U.S. Army in WWII.
More than 8,500 were produced during the war. One out of every five shells fired by the U.S. Army during the war was 105mm high explosive round! It weighed 42 pounds and was "semi-fixed," meaning it was supplied as a complete round, but the shell could be removed from the case and the number of the seven propelling charges could be adjusted for range. This 105 MM M2A1 Howitzer was produced by the Chain Belt Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In 1941 it won the combined Army and Navy Award for Excellence in War Production.
By 1943 it was manufacturing: Rex Chain, Rex Concrete Mixers, Rex Sprockets, Rex Traveling Water Screens, Rex Elevators, and Rex Conveyors and was working on conveyor systems for chemicals. In 1944 the company started also to produce rifles, howitzers (like this one), anti-aircraft guns (rifles), tank turrets, ammunition hoists for navy vessels and turrets, tracks, and gun shields for the LVT(A)-1 Alligator due to the ever-growing request from the Army. So, a very interesting background! This example was discovered by us as a parts lot in Germany. It was most probably one of the units that saw service in the ‘Bundeswehr’ in the post war period. It is recently restored in our workshops combining historical accuracy with our craftsmanship. A remarkable piece of World War II history. Whether you are a collector, a historian, or looking to enhance a military display, this 105mm Howitzer stands as a testament to the engineering and design of its era. For the collector; it will be easy to transport behind a Dorge or CCKW with overall dimensions 19’6” x 7’3” x 5’8” (594 x 2.31 x 1.73 m) and a weight of 4,980 lb (2,260 kg).
